1.9 The Sex Lives of Cannibals by J. Maarten Troost
I’m not going to lie, this book was not what I expected at all and that is probably because I didn’t read the back. I know, I should just read the back of books. But since starting this podcast, I have been asking friends for all of their book recommendations in an attempt to broaden my horizons and read some books that I normally would not have looked at. This book was one of those.
It was recommended to me by a friend and I immediately requested it from the library with little to no information about it. I was expecting it to be more of an historical/ anthropological study of a cannibalistic society with some funny, tongue-in-check moments.
I was right about the humor, and wrong about everything else.
Troost creates a funny, inspiring, and poignant account of life at the edge of the world. He is relatable, laugh-out-loud funny, and makes you want to explore your own dreams, whatever they may be.
I hope you enjoy the episode and I highly recommend this book.
Until next time…
